The Ondring

Another watercolor! Yay! My scanner matched the original colors so much better on this one.

I've started a project to get myself painting landscapes more. My fantasy stories all take place in the same world, called Giid, and I'm going to do my best to paint some of its many landscapes from my stories. This landscape is from the forest of Ondria, which is beautiful but extremely dangerous and only the slightly magical and extremely tough Ondrings live there. Ondria isn't in my Realms and Remedies story, in fact it's not even on the same map. (Realms and Remedies takes place in Northern Giid and this one takes place far south of it.) But just to satisfy myself I'm going to cover all the landscapes that I know of so far, whether they're in stories I've promoted online or not.

I've had this paticular image in my head for a long time. I shot the reference back in 2008 upstream of where I usually camp every summer. I went camping last week and as we were hiking we came cross this very spot and it's so amazing how fast nature changes. The tree trunk had long since fallen into the water and was partially pulverized by rocks the spring melt carries down the mountains.  A nice pool formed behind it, perfect for wading.
