Description
One of the main characters in my novel-in-progress, "Realms and Remedies".
Lars' eldest sister was a hero who could not become a knight because she was a woman. Lars swears on her deathbed that he will become a knight in her place. But when he becomes a squire to a nasty-mean knight, Lars' goal to glorify his sister's memory is put on hold. Lars' knight treats him like a slave, never teaching him enough to progress toward knighthood. The knight is such an unpleasant person that Lars basically forgets how to smile. Lars tries repeatedly to get out of this unfair condition, but is never able to escape. In spite that he knows his knight is purposefully preventing him from ever attaining knighthood, Lars refuses to give up and never surrenders to despair. He works hard with what little training he can get or has ever gotten prior to being a squire.
And then a sliver of fortune smiles on Lars, which frees him from his servitude and allows him to work for someone else...who is much less of a jerk, and might even be able to point Lars in the right direction to reach his goals. Despite being enslaved for ten years (yeah, TEN YEARS), Lars is extremely noble and determined to fulfill his dreams. He has a lot to learn, including how to smile and regain a sense of humor. OH AND HE HAS TO LEARN HOW TO TOLERATE FESCU. BUT THAT PART IS FUNNY. Although Lars doesn't think it's very funny...but yeah.
Also, he has fan girls...and he doesn't even care. THE BOY NEEDS HELP, HE DOES!

POOOOOOR LARS.
I feel like Fescu should give him smiling lessons. Then Lars pulls a muscle in his face and can't talk because it hurts too much. So Fescu asks him a gajillion questions to make Lars talk. Because Fesky is a sweetheart that way.
