UPDATE: Huzzah! 2014 was a MUCH better year than 2013!
It's also really crazy when I realize just how long I've been following you. Some of the stuff in here I remember seeing posted. You'd always been such a great artist in my eyes, and when I see it all lined up with the progression clearly revealed, man it's crazy.
You have such talent too for a lot of different styles, mediums and moods. You're really very inspiring, you know ;u;
Also, is that Fiddler on the Roof in Copic markers from 2008?
And it's a great idea to use this for inspiration for the young nieces as well!
How did you work through it? I've had a hard time working through this fear and block. ;-;
I've always found eyes the most striking thing about your art. I don't know why. Ever since I first started following you way back when you were scargut-the-gutless (which is still a wicked awesome name though I'm not sure there were dashes or if I put them in the right spots...) and I think before your current icon is what it is, I've just adored your art and I've always loved the way you draw eyes. Eyes and mouths have always been something about your art that is very signature, I think. The way you draw them is extremely unique and always tells me "this is Ginger's art!" before I even see the name, and it somewhat surprises me (and yet... it doesn't surprise me) that these are the two features that have never really changed much at all, outside getting cleaner and more expressive. I see your impressive colour mastery and gift with patterns and textures have always been far more impressive than mine own, too xD
I for one and very much looking forward to yet another year of your art~
I think it's cool that your style of drawing is evident even when you were 11-12. Your skills kept getting better, but you always showed through!
That's terrible that school was so awful for you! Seriously, telling a great artist like you to do something else. Though I'm sure you're probably pro at vocal stuff too. And not being able to graduate! That makes me scared for college when I come back from my mission. BUT I'm sure you'll come through all right. You're so awesome that things'll definitely work out eventually! Hopefully 2014 will be a great year for you!
Nice to hear that! I feel like things are going to go smoothly from here, too, as I know better how to proceed with care. New years are great for fresh starts! It's also a good time to look back with an improvement meme, so I want to do my own...
It's amazing to see the improvement over a span of nearly 20 years and just how many stages you've gone through.
Makes me think it'd be a good thing to keep on hand to show to people who are being too impatient about improving with their work despite all the different circumstances going on and around through out years.
ALSO, I'm sure you've learnt a lot of new stuff from that BFA even if it didn't necessarily end well. People aren't necessarily getting better opportunities for work regardless of fancy qualifications so the things it teaches are probably more valued than the actual qualification at present. c:
I hope you have a better year in 2014 though.
OH MY GOD, THIS EXISTED BEFORE I DID. (my dad's books mainly make me do that)
That's pretty awesome. I know that it's a good habit to get into writing the year you made one thing or another on pieces of work.
Old art is always a good way to energised your creativity. c:
I think the one thing education probably has over being self taught is the networking you can do with other people on the course, and learn more stuff from those people. I mean I've always thought of education be it high school or whatever as less effective at actually learning things and more for the important things you learn socially. And then doing the sponge routine. c8 (and it does seem like people aren't too willing to admit that maybe both methods work well)
I'll try to. And hopefully it'll be a year of the not art block for you. 8D
I'm sure you'll recover well, your art and your ideas are too amazing to go crashed!
Wow...I am so jealous ;(
You MUST post more of your earlier work, Ginger!
But this meme stands testament to how much you've learned and grown as an artist over the years. Your stuff never ceases to impress (or to make jealous).
Good luck finding your inspiration again, and I look forward to seeing lots of posts in 2014!
And thank you for the kind words about Jenn & Bueno. I'm ashamed at how I've lapsed in how often I draw that duo.
Maybe 2014 can see a resurgence. Knowing there are folks who still care about them helps!
